Hi Mark, My fiance and I are going to San Sebastian and Bilbao as part of our honeymoon in June. I downloaded your app and have really enjoyed it! I also took a look around your website and really admire the work you’ve done. One question I have about the app is, does one need to make reservations for some of the fancier pintxo bars? For example, I’d love to check out Bitoque de Albia and Bitoque Original but I’m wondering if I can just walk in or if I need to call ahead. Thanks and please let me know if you have any tips not included in the app! Also, we’re going to the Running of the Bulls for the opening ceremony and the next day. We were lucky to rent a room on airbnb and reserve a spot on a balcony. Any tips for the festival? Hope life is treating you well! Jeannine Mohler
Hello Jeannine, thanks for getting in touch! You and your fianceé will have a great time in the Basque Country. I am so pleased to hear that the app was able to help you in planning out some details. Don’t worry about reservations at pintxo bars – crowds fluxuate, but Spaniards tend to eat later than English-speaking cultures, so go closer to the opening hours to be safe. For the Running of the Bulls, consider staying in a neighboring town (including San Sebastian) and shuttling back and forth to save money. I’ve never been, but I hear it’s full of people! But watching it all from the safety of a balcony would be ideal. Check out alquila.net or easypiso.com for the room in Pamplona – they are apartment rental spots but they often have short-term ads for fiestas. Good luck!
